What to say and what to do? I have been sitting here typing for the past while writing quite a few different thoughts and jumbles that have come to mind hoping that my first official post would result in something either entertaining or profoundly reflective, or better yet a mix of both. During this struggle I have come to realize two things. First, humored enlightenment can't and really shouldn't be forced, and two Stevie Wonder isn't appreciated as much as he should be.
Yes you read that second part correctly, I am talking about Mr. "I Just Called to Say I Love You" himself. Now I am fairly certain that most of you out there are not the biggest fans of that song, and I admit that it is not my favorite, but try digging a little deeper. Talk about soul and life in music. Take a moment and listen to "Living for the City" and you will feel true musical passion. The extra bit of grit and drive that Stevie adds to his vocals is fantastic and gives the song a life and force of its own. Then take a stroll on over to "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours" and try listening to it without wanting to get up and dance around. If however you were blessed with the same dancing abilities (or should I say lack there of) as myself I suggest that you not actually dance, especially if small children prone to nausea are present. After that one try out "Sir Duke" followed by "Master Blaster (Jammin')" and top it all off with "Fingertips, Pt. 2" and the immense depth and variety that Wonder has begins to really sink in. Each one has a life and feeling of its own that is so unique and diverse and the true musical genius begins to shine. Good old Stevland Judkins did right taking on the name Wonder, and not just because Judkins is an unfortunate name.
Stevie Wonder, the epitome of what real R&B is and always should be.
